A day after the Rastriya Janata Party-Nepal (RJP-N) officially snubbing the government’s decision to postpone second phase of local level elections in Province 2, the party leaders went to meet Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba at the latter’s residence in Budhanilkantha on Saturday morning. The leaders are expected to dwell on the demands of RJP-N and issues related to the second-phase local polls.

The RJP-N has been demanding that the elections should be held after the amendment of the constitution and increment of local units in the districts of Tarai. The party has also been urging the government to put off the polls in Provinces 2 and 5. A meeting of the RJP-N, an alliance of six Madhes-based parties, held at its party office in Bijilibazaar on Friday had concluded that the government postponed the second phase of local polls in Province 2 in a unilateral manner.

The party is scheduled to organise baton rallies in all district headquarters of the Tarai region on Saturday as part of its pre-announced protest programmes to disrupt the elections process. The government on Thursday had deferred the second phase of local polls in Province 2 to bring the agitating RJP-N on board the elections process.
