The first day of the three-day Hindu festival, Teej is dedicated to Goddess Parvati, and commemorates her union with Lord Shiva. The festival is celebrated for sexual bliss, well-being of the spouse and children, and purification of one's own body and soul. The festival is celebrated in July or August annually (depending on India's monsoon season). The festival has three variants, namely Hariyali, Kajari and Hartalika Teej.
